How to Keep Blonde Hair Bright Between Salon Visits

Posted by Juliana Marcs on

You've just walked out of the salon with the perfect blonde. A few weeks later, it's looking a little brassy and feeling dry. Sound familiar? Here's how our colourists recommend looking after blonde hair at home, so it stays bright until your next appointment.

Six habits for brighter blonde

Tip 1

Tone once or twice a week

Purple shampoo cancels the yellow and orange tones that water, sun and heat bring out. Use Bain Ultra Violet once or twice a week, not every wash, or your blonde can turn dull or slightly lilac. On other days, use Bain Lumière.

Tip 2

Put moisture back in

Lightened hair loses moisture faster. Condition after every wash and use a mask once a week. Masque Ultra Violet tones and conditions at the same time.

Tip 3

Always protect from heat

Heat is one of the biggest causes of brassiness and breakage. Use a heat protector every time you style, and keep your tools at a moderate temperature.

Tip 4

Watch the water

Chlorine and hard water can leave blonde looking dull or even green. Wet your hair with clean water before swimming, and rinse straight after.

Tip 5

Be gentle when it's wet

Hair is at its weakest when wet. Detangle from the ends up with a wide-tooth comb, and avoid tight styles while it's damp.

Tip 6

Book a gloss between colours

A quick in-salon gloss or toner refreshes your blonde between full colour appointments and keeps it looking freshly done.
